By Landon Corton

Building or remodeling a home is not a joke. Money is a very important factor right after you decided on what to do with your homes. Turning the floors into wood in your house will require you to spend little extra especially when you want a high quality wood. Amongst them, oak, maple and birch are the most popular woods.

Before you head out to shop for unfinished hardwood floors you should consider carefully your choice in wood and the quantity you need to purchase. The higher the quality of wood the more expensive it will be to use. Also consider the density of the wood because a highly trafficed house will need better quality wood.

Having it installed, polished and sanded is not enough. It is a lifetime commitment to take care of it so that you will keep its natural beauty and texture. The moment it is delivered in your doorstep you have to make sure that it's not moistened. It spoils the quality of your wood. After installation, make sure that your floor is clear of dirt and dust. Always put floor mats on the wooden floor. Water is another enemy of this type of flooring. Make sure that your wipe and clean the spills soon after they happen. Oil soaps are not advisable to use when cleaning the floor. Use a neutral pH cleaners specifically made for wood floor cleaning.

It's important to be conscience of the sun exposure your floor has. Using curtains and blinds to prevent the sun exposure will keep the floors from discoloring. Regular maintenance like sweeping is recommended as it will keep dirt from forming which can and will scratch the floors. Keeping up on the maintenance of your home will only benefit the flooring.

Investing into your home is a big step and should take careful consideration. Once you move to quality wood and protect your investment with a regular clean up routine you will be on your way to lasting hardwood floors.
