Depending on severity, the cracked heel problem actually may not only require one treatment. One of the best treatments for cracked heels is to soak the feet in warm water with oatmeal for between twenty and thirty minutes.

You will require about half a cup of oatmeal mixed in the water. It's very important that you use a bucket that is big enough for putting both your feet in at the same time. Oatmeal is an extremely good product for moisturizing and softening the feet. After you have soaked your feet in the water, scrape the dried skin from the feet using a pumice stone. It's important to keep them whilst you scrape them.

It's important to not scrape your feet too much as there will be new skin underneath. This new skin will be incredibly sensitive. Following you scraping your feet, you should apply a moisturizing lotion to your feet.

In cases where your heels are very badly affected, it's a good idea to apply Vaseline or another petroleum based jelly. Before applying the jelly, make sure you have socks to hand that you can put on. It's best to use thick socks so that the jelly does not come through the socks. It's important to be careful with this jelly as it can be very slippery. You should leave the socks on all during the night whilst you get some rest so the jelly has enough time to work.

It is very important to be careful when you are removing the socks in the morning, as the petroleum jelly can be very dangerous as it is very slippery. Once you have removed the socks wipe the remaining jelly off your feet and wash your feet thoroughly in order to prevent accidents.

In cases where your heels are very badly affected, you may have to use more than one type of treatment. You may find that this basic treatment does not actually make any difference. There are lots of other natural methods that you can use in an attempt to get rid of this problem. It is important to treat the problem straightaway as it can just get worse.
