Pizza Flavor Types

The origins of pizza have long been debated. Italy is the obvious answer, however it appears that pizza may have come from far further back than modern Italy. While other cheeses have made their way onto pizza (usually in conjunction with fresh mozzarella), no Italian Pizzeria would ever use the dried shredded type used on so many American pizzas.

The pizza is an international taste sensation! Local regions have produced their own pizzas and pizza culture. Pizza is such a diverse dish; it can be dressed up, or down and can be eaten at any occasion! Below is a brief look at the different types of pizza.

The Neapolitan pizza consists in three different kinds of pizza: the Pizza marinara, with tomato sauce, oil and garlic; the Pizza Margharita, which is also the most consumed one, that is made with tomatoes and mozzarella (an Italian cheese), and the Pizza Margherita of Bufala, same as Pizza Margherita while the cheese used is made with water buffalo milk, that is completely different from other milks.

A Neapolitan pizza is never served by the slice, and rarely comes out pre-cut. The New York style pizza is like the Neapolitan one, while it is larger in size and the toppings on it are more, because it's often consumed by more than one person, while the Italian original pizza is eaten by a single person only.

Hawaiian pizza, despite not having been created in Hawaii, is a normal pizza with pineapple and ham as its toppings. This pizza is extremely popular in America, Australia and Sweden; and is gaining popularity in the rest of Europe. The naming comes from the pineapple; it has a warm weather theme to it, hence the Hawaii naming.

No one would have ever predicted the popularity of pizza when first introduced to places like USA and Australia. Arguably and generally accepted as originally from Italy, and introduced to the rest of the world, pizza has become a favourite and gourmet dish for much of the population. Dressed up or down, the pizza is a taste sensation!
