Kitchen Design Software - Is it Worth it?

By Jenny Green

Using kitchen design software when redesigning a kitchen is great way to create a visual model of what you are trying to redesign and is a great way of avoid major mistakes in a redesign project. It can be used by almost anyone regardless of whether you are in the building trade or a part time DIY enthusiast who is looking for ideas. Looking at architect's sketches can be a hard way of visualising the new designs for a room, particularly if you're not creatively minded. However, by using 3D design software you will get to see the designs exactly as they will appear in real life.

Each of the different models of kitchen design software offer different features to each other. When choosing which software to purchase consider how often you will use it and all the the features it comes with. If you only plan to use the software once every 5 years then your requirements will be quite different to a contractor who will be using the software every day of the week and who relies on it to impress clients.

Some of the advanced programs offer pre-installed templates which really aid the design process and save considerable amounts of time.

Always visit the website of a software manufacturer before you make a purchase. Here you should be able to find a wealth of demos and videos of the software. Some of the more advanced websites will have consumer reviews, make sure you read these to get a good flavour for the product.

Prices will vary dependant on the amount of features you go for and this is why you need to try and match your needs with that of the features offered by the software. This will ensure you don't get a product that is too feature rich that ends up costing you the earth.

Some people think that kitchen design software is a not a necessity and try to save money by not purchasing it. This is a big mistake and one that will lead to more expense down the line as you make errors that could have been avoided.
