Discovering Your Rubbish Chute

By Ben Pate

Garbage chutes can be just gross. If you've ever lived in an apartment building or have ever worked in a tall office, you've probably had experiences with the garbage chute. Opening that latch releases a plume of disgusting smelling air that's enough to make you gag. It's easy to see why. Think of all the stuff that gets thrown away by any one person at an apartment or a business. Rotting food, personal care items, sanitary products, diapers, and things that have been sitting in a garbage can for who knows how long. Now multiply all this garbage by a building full of tenants. Now multiply this number times the weeks, months, or years that have passed since the last chute cleaning. The unsanitary opportunities are endless.

Did you know there are tons of bacteria, insects, and viruses growing and multiplying in the grime and crease that is coating the walls of the garbage chutes? When was the last time the chute was cleaned? Some landlords don't ever have their chutes cleaned. All that stuff is flowing out of the shoot in the air every time a tenant opens the latch. It's not just a terrible smell they're breathing in. It's all those harmful organisms, and it's a humongous risk to health.

The good news is, it's easy to get your chutes a properly cleaning. Notice I said "get", because you're not the one doing it. There are a lot of companies out there who will do it, like Nasco International. On a daily basis, they're making sure they offer trash chute cleaning and carcinogen free products that are environmentally safe. They want to make sure that all who count on you, be it your family or multiple families, are living healthy, breathing healthy, and happy in their own homes. Just one of the many services offered is garbage chute cleaning.

Basically, Nasco lowers a cable down from the highest trash chute, seals the other chutes, and uses the hottest water to dislodge grime, food, and other build-up from the walls of the trash chute. This water is combined with a biodegradable, safe detergent that further breaks down food and grime. Next is the rinse cycle. More water is sprayed on the walls, except at a lower pressure. This cycle removes the dislodged build-up that has been blasted by the detergent. Finally, sanitizer and a deodorant are used to protect against more build-up and the smell for weeks.

It's this specialized technique and process that have made Nasco a successful company. With keeping both the environment and its people in mind, they have formulated a revolutionary new product and cleaning system that reduces the risk and exposure to indoor air pollution. Instead of compounding more harsh chemical smells on top of the already pungent odor of the trash chute, Nasco simply destroys the source of the odor: food, grease, grime, bacteria, and dirt.
