How To Choose A Skimboard

By Mike Madsen

Skimboarding is a great hobby that many people take up. There are different areas of the sport that people specialise in so different types of boards would be better for them. When looking for a skimboard there are different things that you need to consider. This article will help you decide what type of board to buy.

There are many different shapes and sizes to choose from so try out a few. When going for a bigger board remember that these are better for bigger people. If you are very small then you will need to choose a smaller board. Have a look around before you decide and note the different shapes and sizes.

Also different sized boards are better suited for different areas of skimboarding. If you want to ride the waves quickly then it is no use buying a smaller sized board. Smaller rounder boards are best for tricks.

Remember that you are going to want a board that is easy to share and pass about on the beach. With this in mind a board that is average size would be the better choice. One that is medium sized offers much more flexibility when compared to other boards.

Shop around and do not just purchase the first board you see. Try some out and put them on the floor to check if they sit flat with the nose and tail a little lifted. A good quality board will sit flat on the floor but, lifted a little.

It is also important to compare the bottom of boards as these can vary. Whilst some firms use wood that has not been treated others use fiberglass or sometimes plastic. Again it all depends on what you want to do on your board.

If you are wanting to ride the waves then you are better choosing a fiberglass material although it is not as hard wearing as wood. Wood is stronger and reacts better to wear and tear. If you take up skimboarding often then you will know that it all depends on how you care for your board.
