Redskins Offense A Mess Under New Play Caller Lewis

The Washington Redskins are a mess right now. Head coach Jim Zorn has a tenuous hold on his job at best and has recently been stripped of his offensive play calling duties. Management installed newly hired 'offensive consultant' Sherman Lewis as the new offensive play caller and the team has set up an awkward arrangement for him to get the plays to the quarterbacks. For that reason, starting QB Jason Campbell has some serious misgivings about the efficacy of the setup.

Lewis has only been out of retirement and with the team for two weeks, and has spent this week trying to ingest a crash course on the Redskins' offensive schemes. While he was learning on the job, head coach Zorn was trying to put the best spin possible on what can only be seen as a de facto demotion:

"I need to have composure. I need to understand what the reality of the situation is, and I think our players expect me to rise up. We expect them to play under adverse conditions. We expect them to risk it all. ... I'm conscious of what's going on. I'm not naive about what's going on, and yet I have to just hold back on any feelings and make the decisions."

Quarterback Campbell is more concerned about the convoluted system of getting plays from Lewis to him:

"There'll probably be a couple of plays I have in my head just in case if some reason it doesn't get in on time."

Here's how things are supposed to work-Lewis will sit in the coaches' box above the field and read the plays off a sheet. While Lewis has years of experience working in the so called 'West Coast Offense', Zorn left doubt that he really knows what he's doing at this point stressing that Lewis "doesn't know the protections" and "doesn't know the blitz schemes." Nevertheless, he'll be running the offense when the Redskins take on Philadelphia this Monday night.

Once Lewis figures out what to call, that's when it really gets tricky. He'll relay the plays via headset not to Zorn but to offensive coordinator Sherman Smith. Smith will then inform the quarterback what to run. Zorn is left in the role of a passive bystander on offense, though he will listen in to the playcalling on his headset.

Backup quarterback Todd Collins also shared his concern with the new arrangement:

"It is unsettling. I've never gone through this before. I've never had a play caller get changed in the middle of the season."

Lewis didn't exactly evoke a lot of confidence upon his hiring, where he revealed that he'd been calling bingo games at a seniors' center to kill time since his retirement in 2004. Still, Collins gave him a guarded vote of confidence;

"I know he's been studying last year's game against the Eagles and seems to have a pretty good idea how he wants to call the game this week. It's the same plays. He might coach them a little differently or highlight some different areas, but the offense hasn't gone under an overhaul or anything like that."

The Redskins haven't scored more than 17 points in a game this season, so maybe the thinking is that things can't get any worse. The NFL odds for Monday Night's game show the Eagles a -7 road favorite with the total set at 37'.

Why Property is Always a Good Investment

When it comes to investments, there are few that are always as reliable and easy to finance as real estate. Commercial and rental properties allow the investor to actually make money on the deal even while it is being financed. Certainly the real estate market has its up and downs, but the investment will always appreciate, unlike shares in the stock market.

Getting Started

The first place to start is by finding a property. The key to making a profit is to find a high-value property that is offered at a discounted price, and one that is already rented or has good potential to be fully leased - creating a positive cash flow situation.

The next consideration is financing. The home owner who has equity in their house can take out a line of credit against the value of the property. This line of credit, or second mortgage, is used to fund the deposit on the new real estate purchase. With an 80% loan, this gives the investor an idea of the price range they should be searching in.

Example Investment

Here is an example of property deal that would make a good investment.

The property is valued at $375,000 and purchased for $300,000. It brings in rental income of $475 weekly.

To purchase this property, you would need to have $60,000 as the deposit with the remaining 80%, or $240,000, financed by the bank. Using your line of credit as the deposit, this means the property is 100% financed by two different loans with no cash outlay.

After six months of ownership, it is possible to refinance. The property is still valued at $375,000 and with the 80% financing rule of thumb, this means a new loan can be written for $300,000 and the $60,000 initial deposit returned to pay the line of credit loan.

This example illustrates the importance of finding real estate that can be purchased for 20% below value.

Consider, also, that you are receiving rental income the entire time. With a rent amount of $475 weekly, this translates to $24,700 per year, giving the investor an 8.23% return. When the loan is financed at a less than 8% interest rate, this results in a positive cash flow. Purchasing the property through an LAQC allows the investor to take a deprecation allowance on taxes and receive a refund.

All in all, this is a win-win situation. There is no cash outlay, rent pays for the expense of the loan and associated maintenance costs and fees, and ownership allows for a refund cheque from the IRD. The longer you hold on to the property, the more likely it is to rise in value, providing an even larger return on investment over time. Obviously property investment is quite worthwhile.

Cris Cyborg Mauls Gina Carano In Strikeforce Main Event

Some Carp Fishing Bait Secrets

If you're gonna take on some of the monster carp like we catch in Kentucky, you need to know some carp fishing bait secrets. Many people fish for carp solely for the fight they put up. A lot of people won't eat them, but then there are those who will. There's an orange line that runs down either side of the meat on a carp, called a 'mud line'. If you cut that out, you can eat a carp just as easy as you can a catfish.

As far as bait goes, there are three main baits that we small town anglers have proven year after year to catch the big carp. In a small town like mine, we had nothing much else to do for entertainment but fish, so it's just part of our lifestyle. We soon learned what types of bait were best for whatever type of fish we were after on that particular day.

The first good bait I want to share with you is what we call a 'dough ball'. It's made from 'Shredded Wheat', which is a cereal we ate growing up. You simply take one of the shredded wheat biscuits and dip it under the water, and then start mashing and molding it into a round ball. It may take a couple of dunks to get it right, but when you finish you have a round ball that will hold together fine in the water. Then sink your hook into the center until you can't see it, and cast it out. The big carp really love these things.

Most any angler, experienced or not, knows that worms are good fish bait. But the truth is, different worms are best for different types of fish. You have night crawlers, wigglers, stripers, and red-worms that all have their place and can be used for carp too. But I've found that the best worms for carp are green-worms. These worms can be found in the dark mud along the riverbank that looks like big cracked mud slabs. Trust me, you'll catch more carp with these than you will with any other type worms.

Growing up in the small town I'm from, carp fishing was a regular activity. Me and my friends all learned at an early age what a thrill it is to haul in one of these big fighters. They get really big in this area. We normally caught six pounders on up to twenty pounders. But once in a while somebody would land a big thirty pounder, and this was big news. This was the goal we all had set in mind, the thirty pounder.

The last of the three baits is very common, and many use it for bluegill fishing as well. But carp love it. It's canned sweet corn from the store. They go for it like a hummingbird goes for sugar. You just slide the kernels onto the hook until it's covered and toss it out into the water. It won't take long before you get your first bite. They simply love corn.

Now that you know some good carp fishing bait, then you need to get out there and test them for yourself. I'm sure you're going to find that what I've said holds true. Carp have a real hard time resisting these three baits, and you'll have a hard time resisting using them often once you give them a try. So good luck, and hope you catch some big ones
